NYC has always been known as the traffic capital of the world, but living here all my life, I’ve never seen it this bad. What’s amazing is the population is lower than it was a few years ago, so it’s not volume.

The city keeps blocking off streets, making traffic worse and causing cyclists and pedestrians to cross intersections whenever they feel like it, without any thought or courtesy. I’ve spoken to people from Europe, and this doesn’t happen there because pedestrians and cyclists receive tickets – but there is no accountability for their actions here.

Accidents happen, and DOT can sit in their offices and ponder how to fix things until their faces turn blue, but a big part of the problem is they blame motorists for the recklessness of bicyclists and pedestrians.
