Hello everybody… This month, I want to talk about the importance of using an experienced TLC attorney or representative to handle your TLC tickets.

TLC is a regulatory agency that is responsible, among other things, for the safety of the passengers and other New Yorkers who interact with TLC drivers and vehicles on city streets. A TLC-licensed driver may receive a ticket from TLC by an NYPD officer, from the taxi unit who issues TLC summonses, a TLC inspector, or a customer. It does not even need to be an actual customer; it could come from another motorist or TLC driver complaint.

It is vital that you strongly defend your rights and interests in every situation that you receive a TLC summons. You may receive a TLC summons for speeding, running a red light or stop sign, improper u-turn, failure to yield or merge… or for many other violations of the rules of the road. These summonses typically carry points which carry heavy negative consequences for drivers, including fines and possible loss of your TLC license for accruing too many TLC points.

TLC violations do NOT affect your DMV license. However, DMV points may affect your TLC license because of the TLC’s persistent violator program. This program provides that TLC and DMV points are added together, and TLC licensees may have their TLC licenses revoked for at least one year if a driver accrues 10 points in a 15-month period, measured from the date of the finding or plea of guilty for each ticket.

It is important to note that TLC points have very severe negative consequences for TLC drivers and must be minimized. I am always available to discuss your TLC ticket and am happy to provide a brief, free initial consultation to discuss such TLC and DMV matters with you.

Thank you for reading my article. Until next month, be well…
