“Many have already suffered enough from the economic effects of the pandemic. Now is not the time to burden them further with additional fees. New York’s entrepreneurs and tradespeople were hurting before Covid-19 from the costs of living and doing business in the greatest city in the world. Now many of them have been severely impacted by the pandemic. It wasn’t fair two years ago, when the Legislature voted for it (against my strenuous objections). It’s more than unfair now. We need to hold off until the city gets back on its feet.
