A woman claimed she was raped by the driver of a Cadillac she hailed for a ride home in the early-morning hours of March 18, in Brooklyn – but later recanted her story, according to police.
The 23-year-old woman initially told police she hailed the car on Utica Avenue near Prospect Place in Crown Heights around 1:00am and asked for a ride to her Brooklyn home. The woman initially claimed that, instead of taking her home, the driver stopped the car in front of a building on Ross Street in South Williamsburg and pressed a metal object – believed to be a gun – to her back. She told cops he forced her into a basement, where she tried to fight him off – but then he demanded that she take off her clothes and raped her, police said.
The woman said the man left after the incident, and she was taken to Woodhull Medical Center. But sometime between the woman’s initial report on March 18 and the following afternoon, she admitted she had fabricated the story, police said.
It was not immediately clear whether she would face charges for the false report, cops said. Police described her as “uncooperative” with the investigation.
